Declared a World Heritage Site in 1999, The Cradle of Humankind is a region in South Africa where many archaeological discoveries were found related to hominids. The region lies on 47,000 hectares of land and is home to “Mrs Ples”, a 2.3 million year old fossil discovered by John T Robertson and Robert Broom in 1947. The discovery of “Mrs Ples” also helped to confirm the discovery of the “Taung Child” juvenile Australopithecus Africanus discovered in 1924 by Raymond Dart.
