Great Things to Do on Human Rights Day

Unity, love, peace, hope. freedom, culture, and equality is what sums up Human Rights Day South Africa

Human Rights Day is celebrated in South Africa on the 21 March and it commemorates the events that took place at Sharpeville on the 21 March 1960, which opened the door to many positive things we can celebrate as a nation such as human rights, freedom of speech, and equality. This is always a wonderful time to take the day off and enjoy it with the family as this is a National Public Holiday in South Africa, however also celebrated internationally on a different date.

How will you spend your Heritage Day?

There are so many great things to do and places to visit on this day in Cape Town. South Africa is filled with so much history all of it adding to how it became the proud nation it is today.

Check out some great artwork and crafts stores in Cape Town

Cape Town has loads of talented individuals and you can indulge in a visit to the city centre and surrounds, and shop some amazing handcrafted jewelry, clothing, and ornaments. Plus you can also check out a variety of art galleries all over Cape Town, even in Fish Hoek which is known to be the home of artistic people. The Iziko Museums features great exhibitions, education, and public programs as well as treasured collections.

Have a braai (BBQ)

We love our braais, and why not celebrate your Human Rights Day with a classic and very traditional braai. Great food and great culture are what you can see in South Africa and braais are one of our favourite cultural activities amongst other.

Do the things you love!

Be true to yourself and do what you love! If you love hanging out with your friends, and doing fun stuff, or meeting other people in a social scene, then why not? Go see a show or enjoy live music, whatever you love, because you’re free to be who you are!

Whatever you plan to do this Human Rights Day, have fun and enjoy it!

Safe travels and peace to all!
